The technological development is fundamentally changing the job market, our current economic model is not delivering, and particularly the US has working poor: people who work full time or more and still cannot support themselves, much less a family.
With further robotization and digitization, even more jobs will disappear.
We need another kind of solution matching the realities of the 21st century.
Universal Basic Income might be such a solution – or it may be a really bad idea. Another possibility is Universal Basic Services and a completely different taxation structure. Either way, it should be explored thoroughly and from a systems perspective.
